Background of the Study

Social media has become a vital tool for communication, networking, and economic engagement in recent years. Particularly in developing regions like Yola North Local Government Area (LGA) in Adamawa State, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are increasingly being used by youths to create job opportunities, promote skills, and connect with potential employers. Social media facilitates the growth of informal businesses, networking, and job searches, providing young people with the chance to engage in entrepreneurial activities and access remote job opportunities (Ali & Ahmed, 2023). In an area like Yola North, where unemployment rates among youth are high, social media serves as a lifeline for job creation, providing opportunities that are otherwise limited by traditional employment structures. This study aims to explore the role of social media in job creation for youths in Yola North LGA, focusing on the extent to which social media helps reduce unemployment and fosters entrepreneurship.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the potential of social media as a tool for economic empowerment, many youths in Yola North LGA still struggle with accessing job opportunities. This may be due to a lack of digital literacy, limited access to the internet, and a lack of understanding of how to effectively use social media platforms for job creation or business development. While social media has opened new avenues for employment and self-employment, there is insufficient empirical research on how these platforms are specifically being used to address unemployment in Yola North LGA. This study aims to investigate the role of social media in creating job opportunities for youths in this region, identify the challenges faced by youths, and assess the impact of social media in promoting employment.

This study will provide valuable insights into how social media can be leveraged to address youth unemployment in rural areas. The findings will be useful for policymakers, social media platforms, and youth empowerment organizations seeking to enhance the use of digital tools for job creation and entrepreneurship. It will also contribute to the development of programs aimed at improving digital literacy and promoting job opportunities for youths.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on social media's role in job creation among youths in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State. It will examine how social media is used for job search, networking, and entrepreneurship, but will not include offline job creation methods or broader economic factors.
